OUR MISSION
Our mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of retired service dogs by advocating for their well-deserved rest, care, and love after years of dedication in law enforcement, healthcare, and disaster response. We aim to bridge the gap between these retired heroes and their adopters by promoting awareness, compassion, and preparedness throughout the adoption journey. Through our research, we highlight the emotional, practical, and social aspects of caring for retired service dogs and the support systems needed for a smooth transition. Ultimately, we hope to inspire a deeper understanding of the human–animal bond and encourage more people to give these dogs a second chance at a peaceful, fulfilling life.
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of Multimedia Arts Students from the De LaSalle-College of Saint Benilde who have researched, studied, and visited service dogs. Here at SecondLeashLife, we are dedicated to providing information and offering assistance to potential adopters. We saw that there was a lack of information about retired service dogs, their difficulties in transitioning to home life, as well as the responsibilities of fostering them. The process of adopting and fostering a retired service dog can seem intimidating with all the unknowns and lack of information. We aim to provide quality information and make it easier and less intimidating for prospective adopters so that they may adopt one of these heroic dogs with confidence.
